A humanoid robot is built to look and move like a person. Two arms, two legs, a head. Not every robot is humanoid. A Roomba isn’t. A humanoid is.

Why make robots shaped like people?

The world is built for humans. Doors, stairs, tools, chairs — all sized for people. A human-shaped robot can use all of them without changing the world. A robot shaped like a dishwasher can only do dishwasher stuff.

Famous humanoid robots

  • Optimus (Tesla) — made for factories first, homes later.
  • Figure 02 (Figure AI) — works in BMW factories.
  • Atlas (Boston Dynamics) — most athletic humanoid; can flip, run, jump.
  • Apollo (Apptronik) — works with warehouses.
  • H1 (Unitree) — affordable, from China.
  • GR00T (Nvidia) — an AI “brain” that powers many humanoid robots.

What are they good at?

  • Moving heavy things
  • Sorting, packing, stacking
  • Working in places that are dangerous for people
  • Repetitive tasks that bore humans

Humanoid robots are still learning. Simple things like opening a doorknob or folding laundry are hard for them. Progress is fast, though — every year they get much better.
