How Cowork is different from normal Claude
- Normal Claude replies with text. That’s it.
- Cowork can open programs, click buttons, move files, and combine multiple apps into one task.
How Cowork is different from Claude for Chrome
Claude for Chrome can click through the website you’re on — but it stays inside Chrome. Cowork can use your browser and your files and your other apps. If the job is "summarize these tabs," either works. If the job is "do the research, save the file, email the link," only Cowork can handle the full chain.
What to know before using it
- Officially released — but still maturing. Anthropic recommends watching it the first few times on any unfamiliar task.
- You need a Pro or Max plan — not free.
- It runs on your computer with your permissions. Not a cloud server.
- You can pause it any time; it asks before doing anything destructive.
